Vogue: What has your experience with the pandemic been like? Claud: Well, I’m based in New York, but I’ve been at my grandma’s house in California for a few months. I was in L.A. for a while, but then things got really bad there, so I came here.
Claud began releasing music under the pseudonym Toast in 2018, but the last year has been big for them, to say the least; not only were they the first artist to sign on with Phoebe Bridgers’s record label Saddest Factory, but their first full-length album—titled Super Monster—is also out on February 12. Last week, Vogue spoke to Claud about the new album, their pandemic rituals, and the sense of worth they hope to instill in listeners.
